I have a few students who are Muslim, and a few of them I talk to quite a bit. One girl in particular comes and does her homework at lunchtime, and we talk. One day she asked me some questions about Judaism, and in return I asked her questions about Islam. She had never met a Jew before. It was really interesting to hear about her religion and share about mine, and to learn how much they really have in common. She told me about Ramadan and how much she enjoys it, about why she chooses not to wear a hijab. She asked me about Israel and what I thought about the conflict. The other day we finished up a conversation about our religions' lunar calendars and a new year's that isn't in January.

She turned to me and said, "Our religions are really similar in a lot of ways aren't they?"

"Yes, they sure seem to have a lot in common," I said.

"It's too bad our people spend so much time fighting," she said.

"I completely agree," I said.

When she walked out of the room to go to her next class, I felt so full of hope and joy that she made such a wonderful revelation. If only more of us could.
